IMG_4353.JPG10 viewsThe water is warmer than I thought it would be. It is, well, comfortable...and the riverbad is easy going; not too rocky. We should be able to make good time.

IMG_4357.JPG10 viewsThe Professor is wearing the Salomon Techamphibian 3 Water Shoes with Stohlquist 2mm Sandal Socks with Fleece Lining. We read positive reviews about the durability of this shoe on this same hike. I went with a pair of old Asics trail runners that had holes worn on each shoe at the base of the little toe which helped drain water. I used the same neoprene sock. The combination was perfect. I used Saloman XT Wings in the dry, upper Buckskin section. The rubber is not very sticky, but one benefits from sticky rubber in very few places on this hike with the exception of the rock jamb.

IMG_6712.JPG10 viewsThe plan was to camp at Castle Lake, but we arrived here at 6:37 pm. We wanted to cook trout caught at Noisy Lake earlier in the day, and the plentiful supply of firewood, convenient benches and fire ring made this site very attractive that late in the day. Fires are not allowed at Castle Lake. Water was a short distance down the trail. It had been a cold, clear night, and the sun hit the cabin very early, making it a great place to get up early and enjoy the view.

IMG_6714.JPG10 viewsThe exposed path to Castle Lake crosses a talus field above a cliff dropping off sharply into a canyon. We day hiked here, since we had stayed below at the cabin, which made the climb to the lake much more enjoyable.
