IMG_3415.JPG18 viewsLooking toward Thompson Peak from the Thompson/Mickeys Spire Saddle, it is difficult to pick out the summit. We decided it was the pinnacle on the left; it looks higher, and has a shape closer to that of Thompson as viewed from Goat Lake.

IMG_3426.JPG18 viewsStanley can be on the valley floor, just above the long east ridge. The aluminum box containing the summit register was huge! It reminded me of a geo-cache, as it contained such items as a lighter, and a dime to phone home.

IMG_3421.JPG18 viewsTo the east, northeast far below is the "unnamed lake" at roughly 9000' where we stood 4 years earlier on our 2nd hike together, contemplating what the summit, thinking we might have tried for it had we started an hour earlier. On Labor Day 3 years ago, we descended the Williams/Thompson saddle to that same lake after running short on daylight, and abandoning a summit attempt (see gallery).
