DSCF0421.JPG4 viewsCirque Lake was the only large lake in the Big Boulder Lake Basin I did not fish.

DSCF0422.JPG4 viewsOne of the hikers (left foreground) with the Idaho Hiking Club Meetup Group, camped at Walter Lake. I encountered the group near the saddle, as they descended from the north.

DSCF0424.JPG4 viewsI was getting a few bites, but not catching anything until another fly fisherman, on his way to the upper lakes, gave me a grasshopper. He caught the larger rainbow trout at Cirque and brought it back to me. I caught the smaller one at Cove, catching more about the same size as the larger fish later in the trip

DSCF0445.JPG4 viewsPerennial snow field southwest end of and tarn east of Cove Lake, Big Boulder Lakes. This begins the cross-country route to Boulder Chain Lakes, the next basin to the south.

DSCF0459.JPG4 viewsThe correct "saddle" is really the notch further up the ridge to the east, which continues to Peak 10,881 (on the left).

DSCF0460.JPG4 viewsThe view north from the low saddle at the top of the steep snow field (I avoided) which drops all the way to the tarn below.

DSCF0461.JPG4 viewsPeak 11072 (right) as seen from the low saddle. D. O. Lee Peak is seen behind the jagged west ridge (skyline) of Peak 11072.

DSCF0462.JPG4 viewsThe view west from the low saddle; looking down the drainage west of Hidden and Hummock Lakes. This drainage empties into Warm Springs Creek, running 90 degrees to it, in front of the dark range of mountains in the upper third of the photo. Note the dark towers on the ridge (left foreground) leading down into the canyon.

DSCF0473.JPG4 viewsCastle Peak looms above the Boulder Chain Lakes; From high to low, Scoop Lake is just visible under Castle Peak, Hidden Lake, Hummock Lake, and Hourglass Lake; furthest left (east) are Sliderock Lake and Shelf Lake.

DSCF0476.JPG4 viewsLooking back up toward the notch on the ridge just west of Peak 10,881. The descent proved more difficult than I had imagined when I planned this loop, especially with a pack. I was glad I was traveling ultra-light. With careful route finding, it was reasonable, but I would not recommend this to someone lacking climbing experience.
