DSCF0429.JPG6 viewsThe outflow at the N end of the lake, and scant 4 miles beyond, Iron Creek Trailhead, the approach the masses use to visit Sawtooth Lake.

DSCF0449.JPG6 viewsThe peaks in the distance rise above Barron Creek. I begin to think we might get a thundershower, but it doesn't materialize.

DSCF0454.JPG6 viewsMy route over the raging N Fork Barron Creek seen from the S side (lower frame) after crossing, utilizing the 3 logs forming a triangle near the center of frame. The log leading from the N side became wet, and extremely slippery, but I was able to use the smaller log to reach the long log (lying in the direction of the stream flow), which led to a large boulder hidden by brush in the photo, and reach the bank safely.

DSCF0441.JPG5 viewsHeading S from the outflow at the N end of Sawtooth Lake. Lot's more people about. I saw more people along Trailside Creek to McGown Lakes than I usually do. I will see nobody from the South end of Sawtooth Lake all the way to Grandjean.

DSCF0442.JPG5 viewsA curious pattern of ice in the water at the S terminus of Sawtooth Lake. Directly above the most southerly reaches of the lake is a saddle that divides the Trailer Lakes drainage with that of Sawtooth Lake. Without an ice axe and some protection, this is a challenging crossing this early in the year; I know from experience!
