IMG_7913.JPG23 viewsTo supplement our backpack meals, I fly-fished the lake that can be seen directly above Mike's pack. I caught two trout the evening before, and another the morning we walked out.

IMG_7973.JPG22 viewsAlpenglow interrupts dinner again! Photography trumps dinner. Fleeting light such as this always sends me running for the camera. It changes constantly, and is gone in minutes. Thompson Peak stands majestically over our camp at 8900'.

IMG_7984.JPG22 viewsThompson Peak and the ridge to it's west bathed in alpenglow, reflected in the tarn southwest of our camp.

IMG_7864.JPG21 viewsOn the eastern horizon, barely visible through the haze, lies Castle Peak, just left of center.

IMG_7916.JPG21 viewsOne of the more beautiful lakes in the meadow above our camp. This tent is pitched too close to the lake, according to the rules on the wilderness permit. There was a dog present to discourage any wilderness rangers. Bryce, the ranger who passed through our camp was very friendly, and the conversation was informing to say the least. Cool!

IMG_7920.JPG21 viewsThe same backlit moss, with polarizing filter rotated to allow the reflections. I like the sparkling quality.

IMG_7931.JPG21 viewsAs I recall, there is a waterfall at the inlet of this lake. There was so much snow this year, the waterfall is completely hidden under the snow couloir in the center of the photo! See photos in the gallery, "Thompson Peak, via Goat Lake, September 13, 2013" to see the waterfall in a lower snow year.

IMG_7847.JPG20 viewsI persuade my companion to continue on to the beautiful meadows beyond the lake. Alpenglow puts a halt to setting up camp to concentrate on photography.
