DSCF0520.JPG6 viewsMy route involves some elevation loss, but ascends this delightful grassy drainage along a stream, alternating with solid rock buttresses. A lovely place to stop for a snack.Aug 28, 2022

DSCF0519.JPG8 viewsThe route descending from Cove Lake to Island Lake descends close to the far side of the rock fall, under the buttress. WCP-9 is seen on the skyline. The route I’m taking to cross into Boulder Chain Lakes Basin avoids contouring to the left (south) through all that scree.Aug 28, 2022

DSCF0518.JPG6 viewsClimbing a ridge west of peak 9883 after descending almost to Island Lake. This ridge will take me to the pass, and my descent to Hummock Lake. Glad to be climbing up and away from the irresponsible pet owner’s noisy dog on the far side of the lake, spoiling everyone’s wilderness experience!Aug 28, 2022

DSCF0512.JPG9 viewsThe “Cheese Grater”, the route to the more southerly Boulder Chain Lakes can be seen on frame right in this photo. The threatening weather turned to thundershowers an hour or so later, but not before I was able to cook my trout; delicious! It rained for about 45 minutes, but I was able to get outside afterward, and finish preparing for good night’s sleep. The “Cheese Grater”, the route to the more southerly Boulder Chain Lakes can be seen on frame right in this photo. DSCF0513.JPG8 viewsSomebody camped up above me at Sapphire asked if the gap on this ridge was new. I didn’t think so. It shows up in photos I took here two years ago.Aug 28, 2022

DSCF0510.JPG8 viewsI fished at Cove, then climbed back up to Cirque, fishing Sapphire on the way back. I used grasshoppers with disappointing results. They were biting, but not very big. This one was just big enough to keep, and added some high quality protein, to the abundant food I carried in.Aug 28, 2022

DSCF0507.JPG8 viewsLooking south from the inlet to Cove Lake. This is an area I enjoy fishing. The lake drops off quickly here, and there are not too many trees, beyond those in the foreground, to get my line hung up in while trying to cast.Aug 28, 2022
