IMG_3401.JPG19 viewsI manage to catch some fading alpenglow on Thompson Peak and the northwest face of Williams Peak that lasted less than a minute as the sun dropped below clouds to the west. The professor is always faster on the draw with her point and shoot, but it has very limited low light capability.Sep 18, 2013

IMG_3397.JPG20 viewsWe decide to get an early start for the peak Sunday morning, and relax and enjoy the beauty of our surroundings; something we don't seem to do since we never seem to allow enough time to accomplish what we set out to do. I intend to catch trout for dinner.Sep 18, 2013

IMG_3395.JPG18 viewsWe set up camp, but have trouble deciding whether or not to attempt the peak today. The weather is improving, but it is getting late, having taken longer than we thought to get to this point. Ideally, we should be coming down from the summit of Thompson. The weather is still threatening.Sep 18, 2013

IMG_3385.JPG19 viewsI also learned that they had successfully fished this lake using spinning gear. Encouraging news, since I carried my pack fly rod and reel up here on top of 3 plus lenses and a DSLR.Sep 18, 2013

IMG_3384.JPG21 viewsThe second, larger lake, in the basin above Goat Lake. We ran into a group coming down, and took their advice, finding that it was easier to navigate the left (east) side of the first two lakes.Sep 18, 2013

IMG_3381.JPG18 viewsFrom the top of the couloir above Goat Lake, Thompson Peak is still under threatening skies; worrisome this early in the morning.Sep 18, 2013

IMG_3382.JPG20 viewsBeyond the snow at top of the couloir above Goat Lake. No sign of the party of four we saw ahead of us along the Goat Lake shoreline, presumably climbing Thompson Peak, who arrived in the dark and rain while we were in our tent.Sep 18, 2013
