IMG_8996.JPG2 viewsTraveling through this high alpine terrain is a delight. We saw no one until reaching the west side of Evolution Basin. We meandered past several lakes and tarns on the grass, avoiding most of the boulders.

IMG_8998.JPG1 viewsToday's itinerary was less demanding; find another camp on the west side of the basin within easy striking distance of Muir Pass and Mt. Solomons.

IMG_9015.JPG0 viewsThe west side of Evolution Basin looking south above Sapphire Lake. We passed up Sapphire since it was so close to the busy John Muir Trail. We hoped to find more solitude along a stream, or smaller lake off the trail.

IMG_9016.JPG0 viewsWe were still traveling off trail here, but the JMT is very close, just right (west) of edge of photo.

|
IMG_9018.JPG1 viewsIt was nice to have enough time to enjoy the meadows and streams.
