Photographing the upper Chamberlain Lake (9849'). Directly over that ridge behind the Professor is Washington Lake. It seems we could have saved ourselves considerable time by traveling cross country. There is considerable uphill encountered on the trail once it turns north along Washington Creek. Looking at the map, there does not seem to be much gain. That trail, however, felt steep to me. Perhaps it was because I was under the mistaken impression it was mostly downhill to Fourth of July Lake.
